Get to Know Mahnoor
Hi everyone! My name is Mahnoor and I’m a fourth year student at Western University currently pursuing a major in political science and a minor in cinema studies. I’m super excited to be joining the BoostHER team as one of the blog writers and can’t wait to share everything we have in store for this upcoming year! Working towards the collective goal of empowering women in both the public and private sphere is an area I’m extremely passionate about, and I’m incredibly lucky to be a part of an all-female team that does exactly that.
In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, travelling to new cities, watching movies, and keeping the independent bookstore business afloat by spending a gargantuan amount of money on books. Being able to write for BoostHER is a way for me to exercise my creativity through the lens of feminism and female empowerment, and I hope to create a welcoming environment in which women can come together and both share and learn about their collective experiences. Expanding our knowledge on female identity, politics, oppression, sexuality, and individualistic experience allows for a deeper understanding of both ourselves and the women around us, as well as the barriers that confront women on both the micro and macro scale.
As someone that has moved around a lot her entire life (and hopefully will continue to do so), intersectionality is a subject that resonates deeply with me given the spectrum of sociocultural forces I’ve been exposed to. I’m super happy to announce that intersectionality will be the topic of focus in next month’s blog posts, so stay tuned for that!
